How many phone numbers would I need to use for keyword call tracking?

The quantity of phone numbers you would need is dependent on the cost per click for each keyword. We would advise assigning 1:1 (meaning 1 phone number to 1 keyword)
for ‘expensive’ keywords. An alternative method is to review your hourly traffic rate and assign an equivalent quantity of phone numbers. Example, if you are averaging 5 clicks per hour from Google Ads, then you would assign 5 phone numbers dedicated to Google Ads.

Can I track at an ad group or campaign level if I do not need the granularity of keyword tracking?

Yes, keyword data are available even if you are only tracking at an ad group or campaign level. However, note that the accuracy of keyword tracking might get reduced.

If I track at an ad group, campaign or keyword level would I be able to report conversions directly into Google Ads?

Yes, AvidTrak utilizes Google Ads’ API to report conversions directly into your Google Ads account. You would need to enable ‘Auto Tagging’ in your Google Ads account and also enter your Google Account ID in your AvidTrak account to get the conversions reported directly into your Google Account.

How do I prevent Google Ads from rejecting call tracking numbers in my call extension campaigns?

When you create a new campaign in Google Ads, Google’s bot visits your website to validate the phone number that appears on the web pages. If the phone number that appears on the web page is different than what you have entered in your campaign, Google may reject the ad. Google recommends that you connect your search console with your Google ads account to negate ad rejection.

What are best tracking practices for franchise marketers?

What we recommend to our franchise marketing partners is to use a toll-free number in the Header, Body and Footer of web pages, and a local number for each franchisee. The toll-free number acts as a ‘catch-all’ and when it is called it allows the caller to be directed to a local franchisee based upon the caller’s calling area code, or zip code. If the visitor chooses they can always call the local number of the franchisee.
